'Taijiquan and the Search for the Little Old Chinese Man might be the single best book in the field of Chinese martial studies that you have never read. This volume demonstrates both that the rigorous study of the Chinese martial arts is possible within an academic setting, and that it can contribute to the discussion of basic questions in fields as diverse as history, anthropology, urban planning and media studies.

It is the narrative story of facts how SeaMen navigated the sea’s before 1100 AD. The magnet compass was created in 206 BC, but not implemented into sea navigation until 1107 AD.

KungFu was practiced upon ship decks, particularly in Southern China. With visibility less than 100 yards, knowing how to survive when you were lost at sea wasn’t just theory.

I will share the stories and point out questions to ask and to avoid asking until later. Also I will share with you what real illusions that you must be aware of when you get lost in a fog at sea.

A recent question, "Can Tai Chi make my Shotokan Karate better", really peaked my interest. My personal response was 'of course' I have seen it many times over, and better yet, I have seen it make other things better. Golfers and swimmers both have used it, but .. why?

I pulled out my old texts biomechanics, physical education and the motor learning theorem, to draft a solid response based in research and not just my opinion.

I am much, much better when things are boiled down, to essentials. Get past all the flowery, feel good crap, and get me to the nuts and bolts... Well, with Mr. John O'Sullivan's permission, I have taken his blog post and voiced it for martial artist.

Anyone Can Use It

I realized that these bare essentials are applicable where-ever you want them to be. You want to improve on your health? They apply. Make your business better? Yep, there too.

You can also download the notes of the Podcast, Enjoy!

Making Martial Arts Studies Matter : Dr. Ben Judkins

During this presentation : Ben is speaking to large group of academics, on topics such as:

What are the role of academics in the field of martial artists?

Which researchers came before this group of researchers, and field?

What roles will the martial arts academics play in the institutions?

What potential impact can martial arts research play to society and organized sub-groups?

Strategic Factors Academia’s will need to take in order to move forward.

This is an International group of scholastic academics that are bringing their skills and forensic level research capabilities to martial arts, and have traveled across countries to participate in this Martial Arts Studies Conference.

Ben shares, what makes Martial Arts Matter to 3 distinct individual types that he identifies in his presentation. One of which he says, ‘that’s beyond my pay grade.’

What if an University Institution wanted to house a Martial Arts Program today, get your minor in Martial Arts Studies? What can academia expect to struggle with? Interesting responses from academics of various fields that have encountered various forms of resistance, today.
At the end, Ben takes on a question from a non-academia, a practicing martial artist, that has direct implications to many of us in the field.

<itunes:summary>Making Martial Arts Studies Matter : Dr.
